Knights of Columbus
The St. Peter the Apostle and St. Alphonsus Knights of Columbus Council 7832 was founded in 1981. The Knights of Columbus is an active volunteer organization of Catholic men that raises awareness for needy causes and generates funds to support a variety of charitable activities, including support of the local parish. A major effort for this Council is a Christmas food and gift basket drive that provides food and children’s gifts for over 100 local families. They also have an annual Tootsie Roll collection, which supports both the national efforts of the K of C as well as local charities, specifically the Hope Center and St. Louis School in Chelsea. The K of C meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:30pm in Blissfield.
Altar Rosary Society
Is primarily a service organization of women in the parish with the main focus being the care and purchase of articles used in parish liturgies. It is also a social organization that meets monthly for discussion, prayer and socializing. Several projects they are involved in include: purchasing vestments and altar linens, preparation and serving of funeral luncheons, providing family bibles for newly married couples in the parish, sending greeting cards to parishioners who are ill or dealing with loss. They also donate to a different charity each month.
To raise money for their projects they host the annual Feather Party: Bingo and Raffle before Thanksgiving.
Heritage Garden Club
The Garden Club was started during the summer of 2009 at St. Alphonsus as the Heritage Garden was designed and installed. The purpose of the Garden Club is to maintain the Heritage Garden and continue to develop and execute landscaping plans for the parish site. There are usually two times a year when the group comes together to clean and spruce up the garden: spring and fall. Periodically individuals come forward to check on weeding and handle any trimming or replacement that needs to be done.
The garden has memorial bricks that can be purchased through the parish office for $150 each. See the attached brochure.
